Field Note Friday, Edition 005: Sand, Everywhere Until it's Not

You will bring the beach home with you.

Yes, it always lives in your heart, but I’m talking about the sand.

It gets into your car, your shoes, your sweater pockets. You find it on the bathroom floor, in your bed, in the corners of rooms no matter how carefully you sweep. A constant companion in kind of an irritating way.

At some point, you stop trying to keep up with it and just accept it as part of the season.

Then one day, without noticing, it’s gone. You’ve cleaned it up for the last time this year.

And you probably won’t even realize it’s missing until it comes back again.

Some things aren’t meant to stay. They’re just meant to stick with us for a season.
